Jonaron Charities Foundation Grant Application
Updated: January 2025
NOTE:
This Questionnaire is considered Jonaron Charities Foundation Private and Confidential and is open to eligible applicants by invitation only. You are not authorised to disseminate, distribute or copy this online questionnaire without written permission of the Foundation.
Background
Jonaron Charities Foundation (“JCF”) is a charitable foundation registered in Liechtenstein and is a spin-off from the Jonaron Foundation (“JF”). JF had been providing charitable funding for over 30 years to assist the less fortunate in regions where the Founder and his family have lived or engaged in business -- especially Malaysia, Singapore and East Africa. Charitable funding is provided to eligible applicants primarily in the form of Annual Grants. Grant Applications are reviewed and subject to approval by the Charities Committee &/or the Board of the Foundation.
Application Guidelines
Organizations requesting donations or grants on an annual basis must adhere to the following:
- This Questionnaire must be completed in full with requested supporting documentation before it will be reviewed and processed.
- Should be charitable organisations operating primarily in East Africa, Malaysia and Singapore for the following underprivileged classes of people or social impact focus areas: for the physically handicapped, hungry and homeless, marginalised poor, sick, elderly and infirm, orphans and abandoned children, Drug Rehabilitation, HIV/AIDS, and Prison Rehabilitation Programs.
- Must be well run and efficient, and cannot be over-dependent on the Foundation for their funding. Each organization must convince the Foundation that operation of the charity can sustain longer term without Foundation funding. Repeat applicants over a 3-5 year period should target donations from the Foundation to constitute less than 25% of their total funding for Recurring or Operational Expenses. As a special case, the Foundation may consider major Capital or Building Project funding up to a 50% threshold (i.e. dollar for dollar matching donation).
- Must be approved charities registered with the local regulatory bodies and comply with all local tax and legal requirements.
- Cannot already receive substantial government funding (i.e. greater than 50% of their total funding per fiscal year), be closely related to government agencies, be administered by the government of any country, or be closely related to any political party or organisations with any political agendas.
- Note that general funding is considered and granted for the year primarily based on the charity’s application submission for that year. No on-going or long-term funding commitment is represented or implied unless the Foundation has made express written commitment to sponsor a specific project or program (i.e. “Sponsorship”). Charities that have a written commitment of on-going Sponsorship must still submit a completed questionnaire each year, and are required to seek prior approval for any expense changes that might affect the Foundation’s expected funding for the Sponsorship.
- Grant Applications may be submitted and will processed throughout the year. However, Applicants may not request funding for the same projects or expenses covered by previous funding requests, or by other funding sources (i.e. no duplication or overlap).
- Funding requests will be considered based on current urgent or high priority programs or projects needed by the charity and/or the community. Applicants requesting assistance for recurring or operational expenses may do so on an annual basis, but requests should be for actual expenses within 6 months of the most recent calendar or fiscal year or for budgeted or projected expenses for the upcoming year.
- Grant Applications for routine funding requests that are complete, well-documented and unanimously approved by our 1st level Charities Committee Review have the potential to receive a funding approval within 2-3 months of submission. Alternatively, Grant Applications that require additional levels of review may be held over for Executive Review at the Foundation's next Annual General Meeting -- typically held in April/May of each year.
- Grant Funding, if approved, will require confirmation of the charity applicant's bank account wire transfer details, and funds will be wired in USD as the preferred currency.
